Your first 5 minutes

A new player loads into a 6-player server, claims a base tile, and starts rolling the Egg Mystery hologram. To stay alive past minute 5, follow this sequence:

  1. Claim a base tile. Pick a tile that’s not edge-adjacent to a hostile-looking player; corners are usually safer than mid-server tiles.
  2. Wall first. Drop a wall tile on every open side of your plot before claiming anything else. This is the wall-first rule. ProGameGuides and AllThings. How both emphasize it.
  3. Claim Egg Mystery. It’s the only egg in the launch build — the source of every pet tier from Common to Secret.
  4. Roll with a +Luck boost. Paste one of the active codes from the Codes page before your first roll. VOLCANOO gives the biggest boost (+4 Luck for 10 min).
  5. Place at least 2 pets on the base. Two placed pets are the minimum for the R1 Rebirth.

If you follow those five steps, your base is raid-resistant enough to keep your first pet set across the first biweekly event window.

The wall-first defensive rule

The wall is the cheapest defensive tile in Build a Base and Steal and the highest ROI defense you can place in the first 60 seconds. Most new-player raids happen in the first 90 seconds after the server starts, when most bases are still open. A single wall tile on each open side:

  • Delays a raid long enough for you to reposition your pets.
  • Counts toward base defense in the Roblox games metadata “raid-safety” score.
  • Costs you zero Robux and no in-game currency beyond the first 30 seconds of cash production.

Roonby, ProGameGuides, and Superlex’s YouTube beginner guide all cite the wall-first rule. Build your second wall layer (corner-to-corner) once you have at least 3 pets placed.

The Egg Mystery gacha

Egg Mystery is the launch gacha hologram. Pets come out in seven rarity bands:

Rarity Tier Notes
Common 1 Most rolls. Cats, Chickens, Swift Runners.
Uncommon 2 Mid-roll.
Rare 3 Mid-roll with luck boost.
Epic 4 High roll.
Legendary 5 Top roll in the launch band.
Mythic 6 Mid-event drops.
Secret 7 Anniversary / event-exclusive.

No published per-rarity drop rates exist as of the verification date. The wiki treats the rates as unknown rather than fabricating them. Use the +Luck boost to skew your first rolls toward Rare/Epic; the boost fades after 5–10 minutes, so save it for the rolls that matter.

The seven beginner mistakes

These are the most common reasons a new player loses progress in the first week:

  1. Skipping the wall. You lose your first pet within 90 seconds.
  2. Rolling without +Luck. You churn through cash without producing anything above Common.
  3. Placing one pet on the base. R1 Rebirth requires two placed pets; you can’t progress until you have two.
  4. Rebirthing with cash on hand. The Rebirth wipes your cash — park at least 50K before attempting R1.
  5. Treating private servers as safe. Build a Base and Steal’s API returns createVipServersAllowed=false. See Private Server Risk.
  6. Hoarding gamepasses without reading the bundle. Insane Pack is the only package deal; the others stack individually. See Gamepasses.
  7. Ignoring the 24h AFK cap. Even a fully-built base maxes at 24 hours of offline accumulation. See AFK Income.

Frequently asked questions

What's the first thing to build on my base?

A wall. Drop a wall tile on every open side of your plot before claiming anything else — the wall-first rule buys you the 60 seconds you need to drop your first pet without a hostile raid wiping your start.

Which Egg should I roll first?

Egg Mystery — it's the only egg in the launch build and the source of every pet tier from Common to Secret. Use a code +Luck boost (VOLCANOO, WeHit30K, or Happy30K) before your first roll.

Is Build a Base and Steal pay-to-win?

No. The gamepasses speed progression but the core loop is fully playable without spending Robux. The 2x Cash, 2x Permanent Luck, and 4x Permanent Luck gamepasses are quality-of-life, not required unlocks.

Can I get raided while I'm AFK?

Yes — and this is the whole point of the loop. Placed pets keep producing cash while you're offline, but other players can raid your base. The [Private Server Risk](/en/guides/private-server-risk/) page explains the safest configuration.
